Marcus Whitaker runs the rankings wing of Associations: the top lists, the head-to-head comparisons and the AMS market briefing. His register is consumer-report deadpan, and his suspicion of the word “seamless” is total.

Every verdict he publishes is scored on the site’s published rubric, and every list includes the case against its own winner, because a comparison where one side always wins is an advert.

He has never accepted vendor hospitality beyond conference coffee, and intends to keep the streak.
